Elizabeth Loran Ph.D.

Dr. Elizabeth Loran

I am a Licensed Clinical Psychologist in Maine, New York, and New Jersey. I work with adults and couples seeking greater clarity, resilience, and meaningful change in their lives.

My work is collaborative and integrative, tailored to each person’s goals and needs, and often incorporates skills-based strategies to help shift long-standing behavioral and relational patterns. I have extensive experience working with anxiety, depression, grief, trauma, intense emotions, major life transitions, and relationship conflict, as well as specialty training in working with mothers, first responders, academics, and medical professionals.

I spent 20 years working in hospitals and medical centers throughout the New York area and have received advanced training in Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Psychodynamic Psychotherapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), and couples therapy. My specialized training includes Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT), Prolonged Exposure (PE), DBT-PE, Prolonged Grief Treatment, and Transference-Focused Psychotherapy (TFP).

Before opening my private practice, I served as Director of the Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) Program at Columbia University Irving Medical Center. I am a Linehan Board–certified clinician in DBT and, during my time in Columbia’s faculty practice, I developed the DBT training program and supervised faculty, psychologists, and social workers in training.

I have also taught psychology courses at The New School for General Studies, Eugene Lang College, and John Jay College. My prior research explored the relationship between trauma and emotion dysregulation. My clinical work is informed by the ongoing study and practice of Zen Buddhism.

While I am not paneled with any insurance providers, I will work with you to submit paperwork needed to receive out of network insurance reimbursement.
